Typhoon Dolphin struck Japan's southern regions on Saturday, causing injuries and power outages across Okinawa and Amami Island. The storm is now tracking toward the eastern coast of China, where authorities have initiated emergency responses, suspended transportation services, and closed ports in anticipation of landfall between late Sunday and early Monday.

Impact in Japan

The Okinawan prefectural government reported that five elderly individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries, with three of those cases resulting from falls caused by strong winds. The storm also disrupted infrastructure, leaving approximately 14,000 buildings without power. Flight cancellations were reported throughout the region as the typhoon moved northwest at 15 kilometers per hour.

Preparations in China

Chinese authorities have declared a level-three emergency response as the storm approaches the coast between Zhoushan in Zhejiang province and Fuding in Fujian province. Zhejiang province has elevated its coastal typhoon alert to the highest level, resulting in the suspension of 162 passenger ferry routes and the cessation of port operations. Ningbo Lishe International Airport announced it would halt operations starting at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, with all flights suspended for Sunday. Forecasters anticipate that the storm will bring heavy rain and strong winds to eastern China, including Shanghai, through August 12. Some areas in eastern Zhejiang could experience rainfall exceeding 600 millimeters. Additionally, Taiwan has reported the cancellation of 63 international flights due to the storm's path.
