Ukraine Aims for EU Accession Talks

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha believes accession negotiations with the EU should be opened by the end of the first half of 2026. After talks with Hungarian counterpart Anita Orbán, Sybiha stressed that opening all negotiation clusters by the end of June is a realistic goal.

Negotiation Clusters

Sybiha specified that he was referring to the completion of the opening of all six clusters. He recalled that Ukraine had fulfilled all EU conditions. The minister believes it is fair to receive an assessment from the EU, and that assessment is the opening of the clusters.

Hungarian Condition

Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar explained Hungary's condition for opening the first negotiation cluster with Ukraine. However, Sybiha noted that the main political obstacle from the Orbán government has been removed.
