The City of Šibenik has ordered the immediate removal of portable toilets installed at the Šubićevac Memorial Park. The facilities were placed near the site where Rade Končar and other antifascists were executed in 1942, ahead of a concert by Marko Perković Thompson scheduled for the day before the commemoration of Operation Storm.

City Response and Removal Order

Following public outcry, the City of Šibenik issued a statement clarifying that it did not authorize the placement of the chemical toilets within the memorial park area. The city issued an urgent removal order to the concert organizer, the company Infinite Show d.o.o. Reports indicated that approximately twenty portable toilets were expected to be removed during the day.

Public and Organizational Reaction

The placement of the toilets drew sharp criticism from the Fališ cultural festival organization, which described the act as a potential political message inconsistent with the city's spirit. The organization argued that the site is a place of historical significance and that failing to respect the history of the location constitutes a lack of civilizational decency. Additionally, the county branch of the Association of Antifascist Fighters and Antifascists demanded the removal of the toilets, emphasizing that the park serves as a site of permanent memory and respect for victims of fascist terror.

Historical Significance of the Site

The Šubićevac Memorial Park marks the location where Italian fascists executed Rade Končar and 25 of his comrades on May 22, 1942. According to the antifascist association, a total of 43 antifascists and patriots were executed at this site during World War II. The area features preserved reinforced concrete pillars where the executions took place, and the nearby stadium bore Končar's name until 1990.
