Championship leader Jorge Martin won the British MotoGP Sprint on Saturday at Silverstone, converting his pole position into a wire-to-wire victory. The win allowed Martin to extend his lead in the 2026 MotoGP standings to 17 points over Ai Ogura, who finished second in the 10-lap race. The event marks the 12th round of the 22-round season.

Sprint Race Performance and Standings

Martin maintained control throughout the race, finishing ahead of Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura. Marco Bezzecchi, returning to competition following a fractured left collarbone sustained at the German Grand Prix, finished third to complete an all-Aprilia podium. This result moved Bezzecchi to third in the championship standings with 193 points, surpassing Marc Marquez, who finished ninth in the Sprint after struggling with rear-tire wear. Raul Fernandez, who had qualified second, crashed out on the fourth lap. Meanwhile, two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia, who started 16th after failing to advance from Q1, finished 17th and did not score points. Other notable finishers included Alex Marquez in fourth, Fabio Di Giannantonio in fifth, and Pedro Acosta in sixth.

Qualifying and Championship Context

Earlier on Saturday, Martin secured pole position for both the Sprint and Sunday's Grand Prix with a lap record of 1:56.160. Raul Fernandez qualified second with a time of 1:56.181, followed by Ai Ogura in third. The top five riders in the championship—Martin, Ogura, Bezzecchi, Marquez, and Di Giannantonio—remain in a tight contest, now separated by 31 points following the Sprint results. The British Grand Prix is scheduled to begin at 12:00 GMT on Sunday.
