Google and Abbott have partnered to integrate continuous glucose monitoring data into Google's Gemini-powered health coaching tools.

Google and Abbott have entered a multiyear agreement to integrate data from Abbott’s Lingo continuous glucose monitor into the Google Health app. This collaboration will allow Google’s AI-powered Health Coach, built on Gemini, to incorporate glucose trends alongside other wellness metrics like sleep and activity. The integration is expected to begin rolling out to users later this year.

AI Coaching and Data Integration

The Google Health Coach provides personalized recommendations regarding nutrition, recovery, sleep, and activity. Access to this AI-driven feature requires a Google Health Premium subscription. Google emphasizes that the coach is not intended for medical purposes and warns that AI responses may be inaccurate or incomplete, advising users to consult healthcare professionals for medical decisions.

About the Lingo System

Abbott’s Lingo is an over-the-counter system designed for adults aged 18 and older who do not use insulin. It tracks glucose levels in interstitial fluid via a sensor worn on the upper arm for up to 14 days. While it shares sensor technology with Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre platform, Lingo is specifically intended to help users understand how daily activities relate to glucose levels rather than for diabetes management.

Metabolic Health Research

In addition to the app integration, Abbott and Google are planning a large-scale real-world study on metabolic health. The research will analyze the relationships between metabolic health, sleep, and activity by combining glucose readings with laboratory, wearable, and survey data. Findings from this study will be used to refine the Google Health Coach and inform future features for the Lingo system.
