The Bulgarian played excellently and entered the top 32, showing the potential for even better results. 366 fencers from 68 countries participated in the competition.

For Bulgaria, Rahim Rashaida (NSA), Deyan Dobrev (NSA) and Radoslav Stoychev (Black Sea Varna) took to the trails. Rashaida came out of the preliminary round groups with five wins from five matches, which placed him in eighth position after the first stage of the tournament and qualified him directly for the eliminations of the best 64. In the first bout of the second day of the competition, the fencer defeated Xaba Fenivesi of Hungary 12:11. In the top 16 meet, Rashaida trailed Jakob Yurka of the Czech Republic by 10:15 to finish 25th. Radoslav Stoychev left the groups with a 3-3 balance. In the competition of 222 sabers from all over the world, he played very well and finished among the best 64 in the competition. On the second day of competition, he faced No. 3 Ahmed Hesham of Egypt in the first round of head-to-head eliminations, dropping 8:15 to finish in 62nd place.
